Every year, on 23rd March World Optometry Day is celebrated all over India. Optometry colleges from different states come together at one place and participate in different activities like debates, poster competition, rapid-fire quiz, singing, dancing and skits etc. The purpose of the gathering is to bring all the optometrists at one place.
“WORLD OPTOMETRY DAY” CELEBRATION
In the year 2008, Hari Jyot College of Optometry, Navsari got opportunity to host the celebration in which colleges of Gujarat, Maharashtra and Goa came together to mark the occasion.
The celebration saw the participation of 170 students included the Nagar School of Optometry (Ahmedabad), Bharti Vidhyapith University (Pune), Laxmi Eye Institute (Panvel - Maharashtra), H.V. Desai Eye Hospital (Pune), Ahmedabad Institute of Pera Medical Sciences (Ahmedabad) and Municipal Hospital (Mumbai) and Optometry College from Nasik.
The World Optometry Day celebration included different educational and cultural programs like Quiz, Poster competition, drama, dance etc. In addition, all delegates had an opportunity to visit the Rotary Eye Institute and Hari Jyot College of Optometry. As Navsari is much known for Dandi – the historical place of the Salt Satyagraha, after the program, all delegates were taken the visit of Dandi.
Several Subject related seminars and Training Programme were organized by college (i.e. Bausch & Lomb Master Mind in Campus Programme. (Lectures, Training & Examination) Ciba Vision, Johnson & Johnson, Essilor Training Programme.
Different days are celebrated by the students every t year in the month of February. They celebrated Saree and Tie Day, Chocolate Day, Green Day, Historical Day, Senior Citizens Day, Make up of Optical Device Day, Denim Day and Friendship Day, Green Day, Picnic Day etc..
In the year 2008, the fourth year students were taken to Bangalore to visit Essilor India Pvt. Ltd. It is one of the biggest manufacturers of Lenses with variety in range. Students visited the manufacturing unit of the company as well as one day training program on dispensing of ophthalmic lenses.
In the year 2010, third and fourth year students were taken to Johnson and Johnson, New Delhi to visit their Vision Care Department. Students were offered two days training program with hands-on training on Contact Lenses by the company.
Students from fourth year were also got an opportunity to visit Super Specialty Contact Lens Symposium at Mumbai organized by Shekhar Eye Hospital and Research Foundation.
